Wood Stamps

Hi all,

I was looking on my DVD shelving at my stamp collection and before photopolymer stamps came a long, most of my stamping collection was wood...

I must admit, I did love wood stamps but with the stamping tools now available I have made the move over to photopolymer stamps and I love them especially in my stamping platform!!

Would I go back to wood...well there are some stamps that I just can't possibly get rid of...like this Penny Black one... "Tender Showers"

That hedgehog is so cute! he's been coloured with Polychromos pencils and die cut using a wonky stitched rectangle die.

I thought I might enter this into the Penny Black challenge, I'm a little late with this one as I seem to have made quite a few cards for challenges lately LOL,

Altenew - AECP - Level 2 - With a Twist

Hi all,  I'm back today with another two cards, for my AECP level 2, this was such a fun class, six lessons  hosted by Therese Calvird.

With a Twist, is all about having fun with your supplies, getting more out of them, cutting on a weird angle and maybe stepping out of you're comfort zone!

So my first card is based upon the idea of getting more out of your supplies...you know the ones that we only use now and again......

I'm using the Altenew Shattered triangle for my first card...

So other than using this set for a masculine card... I've not really used it that much...until now..from now on this set has been re-purposed.. its now a conical wall hanging basket...Yes you read that right...its a wall hanging basket, full of green foliage and flowers!.. lets take a look at the card...

I've used the Doodle Blooms stamp and die set for my flowers and foliage, and coloured them with Altenew Alcohol Markers, in just three colours G702, R403 and Y204 .. I've even shaped the baskets by adding two pieces of foam tape in the middle and one piece on either side of the basket.. so it looks 3D..

I also added some brown sisal, to look like moss...I didn't want my flowers to dry out now did I LOL.

OK, so lets have a look at my second card... the twist with this one is that  I've fussy cut it on a angle... and to get that angle right, I've draw in a diagonal pencil line from top right to bottom left.. 

Yep...it looks like a hot mess... I know... but just wait....till you see...

Now doesn't that look pretty!

I've coloured this one with Zig markers as I stamped it on to Bristol Smooth card stock and Bristol smooth will tolerate a small amount of water...

As you can see I've fussy cut the image..

Now I didn't want to waste the rest of the paper, so I distress ink blended it with Tattered Rose and Antique linen.. Die cut it with a stitched rectangle.  I've mounted this on not one but two pieces of fun foam... I really wanted it to stand out and give it some dimension, and I've added some water droplets..the inspiration for the water droplets...came from outside as it's been pouring down where I live...LOL.  The thank you sentiment was too large so I had to stamp the "thank" and mask off the "you" and then position the you underneath and then mask off the "thank" bit..

Hope I've given you inspiration to re-purpose some of those crafting supplies, or to take this class!

Altenew - AECP - Level 2 - Colour Your Day

Hi guys I'm back today with another card that I've made for my AECP.

Todays class was called Colour Your Day, with the lovely Therese Calvird, I really enjoyed this class and some of the info in the class I remembered vaguely from art class at school...way, way back...(too far back if I'm honest LOL)

So lets look at the colour wheel.. (this one is a free one I've downloaded)

Can you see from the wheel that if you say go with Red, that the complementary colour is Green, and that the Triad colours would be Blue-Green and Yellow Green... (Triad means it forms a triangle).
And if you look at the wheel it shows what other colours work well together too..like Orange and Red Violet or even Blue, colour combo's that you often wouldn't use together...

This really helps when your stuck, and not sure what colours go well with each other.

Also, photos can be a great colour inspiration too, or colour swatches, I have a lot of those saved on my Pinterest.., the other day I actually did a colour challenge that was from one of those swatches!

So I've based my card on the formula that Therese taught us the 70:20:10 Which is 70% of the card will be one colour, 20% is the next colour and 10% the last colour.. The colours used can be within the family of that colour. (like the colour wheel above)

Any way my card as I said is on the 70:20:10 rule,  I'm going to show you the card and then the process used..

I've used 70% as the neutral kraft colour, 20% the pink colours and 10% green colours.

So the process involved in this card... firstly, I stamped the image on to some kraft card stock with Sand Dune ink.

I've then go in with my light colours to add highlights, I like adding the white first on kraft card stock, this just ensures that I do in-fact get highlights where I want them.  And you need to work fast when using a light ink on kraft card stock as the ink seems to vanish..

Here I've started to add the darker greens to the image for shadows.. and then I'll move on to my Pink colours.

And once the image is complete, I can go back and re-stamp if need be. (I am using a stamping positioner)

I decided that I wanted to stamp the rest of the card with the images from the set, but my only colouring would be this one image, creating a spotlight effect.

Don't forget, that it won't be as detailed as this as the ink will nearly vanish.

I've framed the card and heat embossed a sentiment in Pink and used Pink sequins to tie in with my 20% colour.

 This formula can also be used in many ways... here's a few examples I've made..

On this card, I've used similar colours but the background is my 70% the cream leaves my 20% and the gold sentiment my 10%.

On this one, my background is splattered with my 20% and my 10% colours. (Pink/Reds and Green)

This whole card is just three colours too, White, Gray and Pink.
